Google Tracked iPhones, Bypassing Apple Browser Privacy Settings - WSJ.com
One more reason to doubt Google’s “do no evil” motto. This appears pretty intentional.
Netflix split to set up Amazon streaming merger? | ZDNet
Interesting take, seems like a very complex process for a potential sale down the river. I see the spilt the other way, Netflix is spinning off the DVD business to later sell the DVD part and build out the streaming part. I don’t see Netfix wanting to sell the streaming business, but rather to ditch the brick and mortar DVD business.
There was a point in the late ’90s where all the graduating M.B.A.’s wanted to start companies in Silicon Valley, and for the most part they were not actually qualified to do it. They brought the whole sideshow of the hype and parties and all that crap. M.B.A. graduating classes are actually a reliable contrary indicator: if they all want to go into investment banking, there’s going to be a financial crisis. If they want to go into tech, that means a bubble is forming.
Amazon changed our industry. This is mind boggling. That little online book company. Not Google. Not Microsoft. Not IBM, HP, Accenture, Cisco, Salesforce.com or anybody else. Amazon. 100% of the credit. And 9 years after they launched AWS there are still no credible competitors.
Amazon Plans Tablet Computer by October - WSJ.com
The tablet will allow Amazon customers to easily watch videos, read electronic books and listen to digital music they purchase or rent from the online retailer.
I wonder if Amazon will release a full featured tablet to compete with Apple, or rather release an inexpensive special purpose tablet to consume Amazon content, like the Kindle. One that might be sold as part of a subscription offering or free to frequent buyers.
Netflix officially separates DVD, streaming pricing; $15.98 and up for both -- Engadget
I guess it was only a matter of time before Netflix changed their pricing. I have a feeling this is going to really drive streaming plans and connected boxes (apple tv and roku) as Netflix shrinks it’s physical footprint.
Real question is: what is the postal system going to do now?
Office cell phone coverage
About 14 months ago my firm moved offices, literally right across the parking lot, and the office went from having mobile coverage from all the major carriers to none. There was absolutely no coverage for AT&T, Verizon, TMo, and a little coverage from Sprint. 300 feet in almost any direction from our new offices and mobile phones worked fine, but not in our building (they must have built the building out of lead or something).
After 14 months of management telling us they were working on the problem I returned from vacation last week to find the problem had been fixed (or rather the firm finally installed antennas throughout the building),either way it is a very welcomed fixed. Now I can ditch the virgin mobile MiFi I’ve been using to provide my iPhone internet access (we also do not have wifi in our offices (I know, really)).
It’s funny how the little things like mobile phone service matter. Streaming music, I’m back. Speed test from the other day.

2 things I want in iOS 5 (WWDC)
Now that the WWDC keynote is hours away and we are expecting the introduction of iOS 5, these are the two things I feel Apple MUST add to iOS 5:
- A better notification system, yes this has been widely discussed and is essentially a foregone conclusion at this point, but iOS needs a much better notification system, something that rivals Android (they have one of the best notification systems I’ve seen).
- Full offline Exchange support. I am really tired of not being able to manage my exchange email (move/ delete) offline (not to mention the annoying alerts that popup telling me I’m not connected). iOS 5 needs to enable full email management capabilities while not connected. I’ve had it with current implementation. The BlackBerry was great at this. Apple needs to step it up.
- And one more thing…. It would be great to have voice recognition text input much like android.

Eye-Fi Direct Mode is here, turns tablets and smartphones into must-have camera accessories -- Engadget
When I read this article I was super excited, I use an EyeFi card in my Cannon S90 (which doesn’t get a lot of use) but has been my goto camera lately whenever I wanted something more than my iPhone. To my dismay when I tried to setup direct mode I discovered my card is not an “X2” card. It turns out I bought my Pro card a few months before the X2 cards came out. Seems to be about par for technology purchases.
One of my biggest requests of EyeFi has been dropbox support. It seems EyeFi will upload to every service under the sun except dropbox. Not only do I heavily use Dropbox for almost everything, but I wanted dropbox sync so that I could manage photos on my iPhone or iPad.
In my perfect world, I would take a photo, EyeFi would upload it to dropbox. If I were at my computer I could import the image into Aperture and be done, but if I were on the road I could access the newly taken image from Dropbox on my iPhone, edit it and share it on the network of my choosing without too much fuss. Sounds great, right?
Well it seems direct mode will essentially let me do just that but faster, since I wont have to find a hotspot to upload to in the first place.
I’m seriously considering picking up a new X2 card just so I can use this feature. On the other hand, I’m finding the camera in my iPhone 4 to be pretty damn good for just about anything I use my S90 for.
